BUMTHANG

Bumthang is regarded as the kingdom’s spiritual center. One of Bhutan’s oldest regions, Bumthang is home to several monasteries and holy places. In the eighth century CE, Guru Rinpoche treated a local monarch here for a disease caused by spirits. As a result, the monarch eventually accepted Buddhism, as did the entire nation. Bumthang is the birthplace of the Buddhist saint Pema Lingpa, as well as the home and practice of several other well-known Buddhist yogis. As a result, Bumthang is home to monasteries and other hallowed objects.

Kenchogsum Monastery

Tsilung, often referred to as Kenchosum Lhakhang, is a monastery located in Bumthang. Pema Lingpa claims Lhakhang was established as early as the 8 century.

Tamshing Monastery

Jambay MOnastery

Situated in Bumthang, the Jambay Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Maitreya, is one of the 108 temples constructed by the Tibetan monarch Songtsen.

Chakhar Lhakhang
