Eastern Bhutan - Trashigang Attractions and Sightseeing

Trashigang is the heartland of eastern Bhutan and was once the centre of important trade with Tibet. It is also the trading centre for the nomadic people from the north eastern glacial valleys, Merak and Sakten, who come to sell their dairy products and yak wool dressed in their unique costumes.
Places to visit in Trashigang
Trashigang Dzong: This Dzong was built in 1659 and commands a remarkable view over the surrounding countryside. Once, the entire eastern region was ruled from this Dzong from the late 17th century until the beginning of the 20th century. Now, it is the administrative centre of the district and also houses the region's monastic body.
